My Plan

7600 Nautical Miles

40 Aerodromes

19+ Flying Days

Over the past 6 months I have spent many hours and worked with a number of people to put together a plan that will allow me to circumnavigate Australia in a journey that will span some 7600MN and land at 40 Aerodromes.

Each day will include approximately 4 hours of flying and usually one stop for refuelling and a break.

Iā€™m expecting that it will take me at least 19 flying days, but the length of time I will be away will be perhaps twice that to allow for weather and rest.

My Goal

It might seem obvious that my goal is to complete the trip that I have planned, and while that is what I am setting out to accomplish, the true challenge is something a little different.

My true goal is not about getting to the finish line or setting any speed records.

Instead it is a personal challenge to me to become a better pilot. To make the right decisions every day on the ground before I fly and when I am in the air.

I am almost certainly going to be delayed for days due to weather even though I would like to continue. There may be reasons that require the route to be changed, shortened or even stopped altogether.

My true goal is to learn through these decisions, to fly safe and to inspire others to achieve their own goals.

Always have a Plan B

My planned route will take me to all four edges of Australia, and the weather that I will encounter during this time will be vastly different.

With November heralding the build up to the wet season in the northern parts of Australia, there is a possibility that it may not be safe for me to fly to some of the top-most destinations such as Darwin.

Should that be the case, I have planned an alternate route that is still a similar distance overall but traverses through more southerly latitudes and locations such as Mount Isa and Tennant Creek to stay away from the worst of the tropical weather.
